Cocoyam is a tropical starchy tuberous root crop.  Their taste is similar to that of the potato, but with a nutty flavor. There is the white and red coloured Cocoyam.
It serves as a soup thickener for Bitterleaf soup, Oha (Ora) soup, Ekpang Nkwukwo and can be boiled like yam and eaten with spiced Palm oil or sauce.
It is incredibly high in potassium, fiber, vitamin C, riboflavin, and iron, and low in fat.
